Monsterpalooza, Painting with Casey Love, 2001 Sculpt

This year has been eventful but the things on this post will be the trip to Pasadena to see Monsterpalooza then the painting class with Casey Love and finishing the 2001 A Space Odyssey sculpt.
Monsterpalooza was in a bigger location this year so many more things to see/do. Pete Oberg and I went all three days and it was awesome. I could do this every month. It was well attended by many of Hollywood's special effects people like Casey Love, Jordu Schell, Face Off hosts Glenn Hetrick, Ve Neill, Neville Page, Lois Burwell and numbers of past winners.
I signed up for a painting class with Casey Love during the event and below are some pictures of the class results. Casey was an excellent instructor and the paints used were from an acrylic set included with the class, as was the creature. It was mostly airbrushed.
The 2001 sculpt was many years in works learning how to do small things, but finally finished. The fur is black fox fur because it looks best at this scale and the sculpt (rocks and Moonwatcher body/face) is super Sculpey. Hands were to small to sculpt and have any strength so the hands, feet and sign were made in Blender, a sculpting software and then 3D printed.

Gotta love the makeup schools here

Backpack 2015

Yes, I did another backpack this year with Jim and Pete. Left out of Twin Lakes again, stop at Barney Lake, stop at Crown Lake, over Mule Pass and then cross country down Slide Canyon.....beautiful 2 week hike. Food, bourbon, tequila and espresso were all great! Had some llama drama and Jim got taken for a llama ride a couple of times as he grabbed hold of these loose elusive troublemakers. The slide was very impressive!

Yes, the llamas carried beer

Over Mule Pass looking at the Sawtooth, hail as well

Off trail at the slide

End of the trail where the fishing is heaven

Worth the hike!

Gotta head back.....what ya gonna do?
