Morro Bay: First stop on our kayak adventure! Put in at Morro Bay and paddled along side a seal as long as the kayak! Went around Morro Rock until it met up with the ocean –not brave enough to go out there! Current can get quite strong in the bay going in and out. Lucky for us it was coming in during our time in the water. Lots of noisy seals lying around on a dock, that was fun to watch. Later in the day, we saw otters!
Sacramento:Visited Kathy and Meaghann and we all went out on Lake Natoma near their house. First day, we took turns in the kayak and their inflatable boat prompting these famous words uttered by Kathy: “I’m taking on water!” On the second day, they rented their own kayak and we had a great day on the lake! Took time to look at a funny sound coming from the pop-up wheel, thought it was the bearing. But after taking it out it turned out to be a couple lug nuts came loose. Greased the bearings anyway.
Lassen Volcanic Park - We camped at Manzanita Lake for three wonderful days. The water was so clear, you could see all the way down to the bottom of the lake in many places! One night we watched the sunset from the shore and Bill took this spectacular shot of the clouds. The colors were more intense the longer we watched. This will be one for the wall! They call it “Little Yellowstone” but having just been there I would not compare the two.
Donner Lake - This is the best lake yet for kayaking! Little inlets, beautiful woodsy shorelines, and you never knew what surprises lay around the corners! We visited the Donner Museum and explored a nature trail. Went part way up the Donner Pass until I wimped out because of the heights, but Bill took a beautiful shot of the lake from that perspective.
More after we get to Tahoe
