Kayak Trip To Morro Bay 2011

This year we went back to Morro Bay via Palos Verdes and Santa Barbara. Never thought I would end up being a member of a winery but had to try the Bridlewood wines for a bit longer than one stop. The red blend 175 was what got me there in the first place. Going right past it near Santa Barbara I had to stop in.
Stayed in Golden Shores Campground the first three nights in Long Beach. Never figured I'd ever camp in Long Beach among the refineries and trafic and shopping and people stealing bikes at 4 in the morning. Yes, one time we were woke up by someone yelling "Call 911 he's stealing bikes!!" Then I hear right next to us in a whispering female voice "Throw it over the fence". Who can sleep thru all that?? So I got up and went outside only to see a guy come around the corner riding like the wind down the bike path along the draining channel.....what a night! We did have a fire 2 of the 3 nights at the common fire pit. We also went to the Point Vicente lighthouse and Botanical Gardens in Palos Verdes for photo ops and plen air painting.
Leaving Long Beach was exciting because the next stop was the winery.
The hotel in Santa Barbara was nice as was the wine. We also spent time in Solvang where we had not been in 20+ years.
The next two nights were in Morro Bay where we went up to Cayucos for a day. Saw a lot of antique shops with dishes like my mom had, nice sunny day. Put the kayak in Morro Bay a couple days and saw two jelly fish that looked like fried eggs!  But the otter pictures were taken from shore. They were so close to the shore we would just sit on the rocks and watch them.
The last 3 nights were at El Chorro Campground, a great place 1/2 way between San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay. It backed up to a lovely Botanic Garden.  In Morro Bay, we especially liked the unique Garden Gallery, with the most beautiful and artistic arrangements of outdoor water fountains, plants, and arrangements, as well as browsing the art galleries, and visiting the Edna Winery.
By the way, this blog is written by both me and Deb.
